Vor nicht allzu langer Zeit habe ich das Werk "Fighting" aus alten Puzzleteilen gefertigt. Als es fertig war, habe ich es mir angesehen und ein Gedanke stieg hoch: "Das ist es."
Ich habe in den vergangenen fünf Jahren einige verschiedene Stile ausprobiert. Von Origami, über Malerei mit Acryl auf Papier, zu Gouache auf Leinwand, zu Pappmaché Figur. Dazu unterschiedliche Themen: Feministisch, Queer, Katzen, Vögel, Frauenporträts. Irgendwie fehlte mir aber immer etwas. Ich bin nicht dabei geblieben, habe wieder Neues ausprobiert. Das macht Kreativität für mich allerdings auch auch. Sich die Neugier zu bewahren und ausprobieren. Dabei ist als Profi-Künstler*in aber auch immer im Hinterkopf, dass irgendwann eine Art "Stil" entstehen muss, der wieder erkannt wird und sich vermarkten lässt.
Seit ich in die Speed Puzzling Szene eingetaucht bin, ist "Puzzeln" ein sich wiederholendes Element in meiner Arbeit. Kunstwerke als Puzzle gedruckt, Speed Puzzling Veranstaltungen und jetzt Kunst aus alten Puzzleteilen. Das fühlt sich rund für mich an und vor allem habe ich endlich dieses Gefühl, dass ich mir ein Werk von mir anschaue und denke: "Ja, das finde ich jetzt selbst richtig, richtig gut!" Und es steigt diese Freude in mir auf beim Betrachten und ich habe direkt Lust das nächste Werk zu beginnen. YES!
Also wird es in Zukunft mehr "Puzzled Artworks" geben. Es soll nicht alles "Puzzleteile auf Leinwand geklebt und ein Gouache Hintergrund" sein. Gerade arbeite ich auch an einer Pappmache Figur mit Puzzleteilen und in meinem Atelier steht ein Holzbrett, dass darauf wartet, dass Puzzleteile mit Nägeln aufgebracht werden. Ist das dann meine "Technik"? Irgendwas mit alten Puzzleteilen? Vielleicht. Ist es eine neue Werkserie? - Mmh. Könnte man vielleicht auch sagen. Gleichzeitig sind dann die thematischen Unterschiede. Es soll nicht alles queer werden, ich habe auch schon diverse Motive im Kopf, die mehr durch Pflanzen und Natur inspiriert sind. Aber auf jeden Fall auch viel Queeres!

Not too long ago, I created the artwork Fighting using old puzzle pieces. When it was finished, I looked at it and a thought came to mind:
"This is it."
Over the past five years, I’ve experimented with many different styles. From origami to acrylic painting on paper, from gouache on canvas to papier-mâché sculptures. I also explored a wide range of themes: feminism, queerness, cats, birds, and portraits of women.
But somehow, something always felt missing. I never stayed with one approach for very long and kept trying new things. Then again, that’s also what creativity means to me: preserving curiosity and allowing yourself to experiment.
At the same time, as a professional artist, there’s always that thought in the back of your mind that eventually you need to develop a recognizable style—something people can identify as yours and that can be marketed as part of your artistic identity.
Since becoming involved in the speed puzzling community, puzzles have become a recurring element in my work. I’ve had artworks printed as puzzles, organized speed puzzling events, and now I’m creating art from old puzzle pieces.
It feels complete somehow. More importantly, for the first time, I look at one of my artworks and think:
"Yes. I genuinely, genuinely love this."
And when I look at it, I feel excited. I immediately want to start the next piece.
YES!
So there will definitely be more Puzzled Artworks in the future.
That doesn’t mean every piece will simply be puzzle pieces glued onto canvas with a gouache background. Right now, I’m also working on a papier-mâché sculpture that incorporates puzzle pieces, and there’s a wooden board waiting in my studio for puzzle pieces to be attached with nails.
Is that my technique? Something involving old puzzle pieces? Maybe.
Is it a new body of work? Hmm. You could probably call it that.
At the same time, the themes will continue to vary. Not everything will be queer-themed, although there will certainly be plenty of queer work. I already have several ideas inspired by plants and nature as well.
